Best Project Ever: Beauty of obstacles in personal growth

Personal growth is an important factor in everyone’s life. Even when we don’t realize it, there’s an inner calling begging us to get on that road. The journey to personal growth is not all unicorns and rainbows.

Once we start following the journey, it’s not easy to stay on that path because for the new to be born the old has to die.

Obstacles such as anxiety, fatigue, doubts and uncertainty that come with these processes are painful yet needful. These obstacles test our tenacity and endurance level while pushing us to the next level of growth.

We can identify three obstacles that we need to overcome in other to achieve personal transformation. These are:

  1. Mindset : As human beings we sometimes carry certain mindsets such as perfectionism, past failures, low-self-esteem, doubt among others that deter us from developing and improving ourselves any further. These mindsets will make you feel it is impossible to achieve the transformation needed however you have to stay focus and committed to the process.
  2. Resources : Resources can come in the form of time, money, people, learning materials etc. One may be limited by all and sometimes others may be limited by a few of these resources. With resource limitations such as time and learning materials the internet can be of great help. One can always learn online at no cost and at his or her own conveniences. With regards to money obstacles, the best thing to do is to budget, live within your means while cutting cost as much as possible, seal all loop holes that drain you financially so you can save for your development. Additionally, one can also ask for help.
  3. Environment: Sometimes the environment we found ourselves in deters us from seeking personal growth. A toxic relationship whether platonic or romantic, same sex or opposite same will make it near impossible for one to stand out and seek personal growth. In working or cultural settings that kick against personal educational growth at certain level, the best thing to do is develop in silence while being circumspect about the level of personal information you give out to people. In an organization, you can notify your HR and Supervisor about your decision and also keep them updated so that there are no surprises.

The obstacles are good. They test us. If we’re strong enough, the obstacles push us towards constant growth. They are not pleasant but in a strange way, that’s the beauty of it all.
