SAYEST THE LORD: Do not burn “strange fires”
Do not burn “strange fires” in my presence.
Do not preach what the congregation wants to hear but, but preach what I the Lord wants the congregation to hear.
Be careful of the strange messages in words or in songs that are coming from the altar consecrated for God. Have you forgotten what happened to Nadab & Abihu? Aaron’s sons?
Leviticus 10:1-2(NIV) noted that Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered strange fires before the LORD, contrary to His command. So, fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.
The Hebrew translation for “strange” means “unauthorized, foreign, or profane.”
Another looks up for the word “strange ” means “to turn aside.” It could be used of a traveler who is looking for a motel or a place to stay, yet, they are turned away, for whatever the reason might be.
Strange fires can be described in so many ways; it could be the use of carnal means to kindle devotion and praise or fleshly hype rather than God dependence or false worship or will worship or doctrine that looks like God’s word but are not rather they are the wisdom of man.
We need to noted that God not only rejected their sacrifice; He found it so offensive that He consumed the two men with fire.
One dimension of God is that He is a consuming fire and a jealous God and it is out of His will for mankind to worship any other God aside him much less to bring it to His Tabernacle.
Isn’t strange that most believer of modern churches have no fear of God nor His word. Some preachers and believers even try to compromise or twist the word of God just to make unbelievers feel comfortable. It looks like a lot of us are taking advantage of the grace of God for granted. We need to understand that even if God may not consume anyone who brings strange fires before him in recent times; strange fires in itself brings shame, condemnation, destruction, depression, anxiety, death to the human soul and body among many other things.
Therefore, put out those strange fires now!!!
Put out every old wine completely and only the new wine must be put in the new wine skin.
Burn the incense according to the instructions of God and not according to your fleshly passions. For to please the Lord in obedience is greater than all.
Even though we are living on the finished side of the cross, the fear of the Lord is still the beginning of wisdom (Ps. 111:10a). God is still a consuming fire, a jealous God (Deut. 4:24). When we come into His presence, we are to come as children, as those who have been reconciled, but there is to be a godly fear inspired by respect for the One with whom we are dealing.
